New York City FC (NYCFC) strengthened its midfield department by contracting Australian international Aiden O’Neill until the completion of the 2028 Major League Soccer (MLS) season. The 26-year-old Australian Midfielder Aiden O’Neill signs with NYCFC following his 54 Standard Liège appearances from 2023 to present where he played as team captain.
A Proven Leader with International Experience ​
The Australian national team has given O’Neill 19 caps yet he joined NYCFC with extensive experience. During his time at Standard Liège he proved his leadership abilities by taking on the role of captain. O’Neill spent his time in between Belgium after playing at Melbourne City FC during 2020 to 2023 in the A-League competition. ​
NYCFC Sporting Director David Lee demonstrated his faith in O’Neill to improve the team’s roster through his statement “Aiden is a player we’ve followed for a while.” We are certain that he will bring strength to the team roster. The defensive midfielder demonstrated an 79.1% success rate when passing the ball in addition to completing 216 accurate passes and 19 precise long balls which established his offensive and defensive contributions. ​
